A Sincere Message from Dr. Kim Sun-young of Gangnam Healing Eye Clinic

Hello.
I am Kim Sun-young, the head director of Gangnam Healing Eye Clinic, and an ophthalmologist with 18 years of experience.
(Our clinic is directly connected to Sinnonhyeon Station.
You can reach us by taking the elevator inside the station without needing to go outside.)
Recently, I've been receiving casting calls from TV programs like KBS's 'Make Me Man' and 'A Morning to Try'.
Other doctors and many patients have started calling me "the doctor that even public broadcasting seeks out" haha.
(It's a bit embarrassing...)
I graduated second in my class from Catholic Medical University, which is considered a top medical school in ophthalmology.
I also worked as a professor at Catholic St. Mary's Hospital for about 4 years.
So far, I have performed nearly 20,000 cataract surgeries.
I have also performed over 5,000 vision correction surgeries.
I even personally performed cataract surgery on my own mother and father.
Thanks to our re-operation center, lifetime guarantee system, and the 'Ophthalmologist Sister' YouTube channel with 50,000 subscribers...
...and so on.
Perhaps it's because of these things that many people trust me and say they want to have surgery right away... haha.
But...
That also makes me worried.
This is because many people have high expectations after seeing these impressive and glamorous aspects of my career.
I am writing this post hoping that no one will be unaware and experience any negative consequences.
The three things I want to share with you below are the most important values at our Gangnam Healing Eye Clinic.
These values reflect the inconveniences I experienced while working as a professor for 4 years and as a pay doctor at other hospitals for a long time.
1) Providing Treatment the Way I Want
One thing I can clearly say is that I value conviction over money.
(It feels a bit awkward to say this myself...)
Rather than creating a factory-like large eye clinic that quickly rotates only patients who will generate revenue,
I want to be a doctor who can comfortably reassure each and every patient who is afraid of surgery.
Especially when performing cataract surgery, patients tend to share many stories.
'How uncomfortable they have been all this time...'
'I heard that other hospitals জোর করে recommend 끼우라고 별로인 lenses...'
……
Even if it takes a little longer, I listen to what my patients have to say until the end.
I provide consultations until all their questions are resolved.
As a result, there may be a slight wait time occasionally,
but I prefer to approach my patients with sincerity.
That's why our Gangnam Healing Eye Clinic intentionally doesn't hire many pay doctors.
Doctors who only chase money have a different direction from our clinic.
2) Golden Interior
The interior is also very important.
If the space where patients visit has a cold and factory-like atmosphere,
they will inevitably feel fear and nervousness before surgery.
Therefore, I designed it to capture the feeling of a haute couture fashion show in Paris.
As you can see, we used brown tones with slightly warm white lighting.
I chose lighting that would be most comfortable for patients' eyes.
Rather than a large hospital with a rigid and cold atmosphere,
I focused on creating a comfortable, home-like atmosphere where patients can receive treatment without tension.
And,
the last part is the most important.
3) Skill of the Optometry Staff
Here's what I think.
'A doctor's qualifications do not determine the outcome of surgery.'
Most doctors are busy with consultations and surgeries,
so it is not easy to conduct eye exams (optometry) for patients themselves.
We have separate staff members called 'optometrists' who are solely responsible for patient eye exams.
Our staff gathers every morning for regular meetings.
I believe that these optometrists determine the success or failure of the surgery.
Only when the test results are accurate,
can we properly correct nearsightedness, astigmatism, and farsightedness.
Even if the astigmatism axis is off by just 3 degrees,
vision can be reduced by as much as 10%.
(I recommend avoiding places with many junior optometrists if possible.)
This work is very dependent on manual skill...
The accuracy of the test results varies depending on how much experience they have.
Therefore, although we have over ten optometrists at Gangnam Healing Eye Clinic,
only two of them are in charge of vision testing, which requires the most manual skill.
(They have at least 10 years of experience.)
I heard that other hospitals are constantly trying to scout them..^^;
Like how applause requires both hands to make a sound,
the standard for a 'good' eye clinic is not just the doctor doing everything alone,
but also having optometrists with outstanding skills...
I wanted to emphasize that point...^^
Those were the three things I wanted to share with you.
There are so many stories I want to tell, but I know that if the post is too long, you may not read it...
So, I will conclude the introduction here..^^
If you read this post and would like to receive a simple consultation from me,
